Myofascial Release (MFR) is a physical therapy technique that works to reduce tensions and restrictions in the fascia -the connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles throughout the body. It alleviates muscle tightness and improves flexibility, movement, and circulation.
Distinct from traditional oil or sports massages, MFR typically involves applying sustained, yet gentle, pressure to the affected area. This creates a degree of skin traction that is transmitted into the fascia, facilitating release. Treatment is applied directly to the skin, in a manner that ensures you remain warm and comfortable throughout. The pace of the massage is slow and deliberate, and carefully attuned to your natural rhythms. The touch is gentle and should not cause any discomfort or pain.
A six-week course is usually recommended to experience the full benefits of MFR and to enhance overall well-being. Cultivating a sense of ease within your own body can be incredibly soothing and empowering, however, there's no obligation to continue treatment if you feel it´s not working for you.
It is always important to see your doctor if you have health concerns. However, if conventional treatments are not helping and you want to explore a different approach, MFR may be for you.
